Help Plant Tree Seedlings on the Greenway
River Road
Piffard
NY
The DEC Trees for Tribs program wound up having extra trees this year and the Greenway is receiving 100 seedlings by this Saturday, May 26. We are getting 25 black cherry, sugar maple, sycamore and red stem dogwood, all of which Park Manager Kristine Uribe would like to plant at the Abbey of the Genesee location to stop the bank erosion.
This is short notice, but we will meet this Saturday at 10 AM to plant the seedlings at the new Abbey section of trail. The best way to get to it is to take River Road on the west side of the Genesee to the Farm Lane located right across from the driveway to their retreat house. Kristine is going to try to mark the Farm Lane.
We will have some tools on hand but if volunteers could bring the following that would be great: water, gloves, bug repellent, loppers, spades and buckets. We will be planting on a hillside in the woods so appropriate footwear is highly suggested. The watering plan is to form a bucket brigade from the Genesee.
We need help to take advantage of this opportunity and hope that some FOGVG members and Greenway friends will be able to help and invite friends to join us. If you can help, please respond to fogvg@frotiernet.net, our Facebook Page, or at our MeetUp site at https://www.meetup.com/GVGSP-Enthusiasts/events/251068367/
